SET IN TEN ACRES
Two mazes, ten garden areas and much, much more......
Everything for that Perfect Day!
PINE WALK
Wander onto the mysterious woodland walk within a plating of Scots Pine and experience the peace and tranquillity of a semi shaded woodland.CHRISTMAS TREE MAZE
Careful removal of Christmas Trees and regular mowing have produced a network of random paths that have a natural tranquillity, in time the growth in height will create tunnels with a glimpse of the sky above.PRIORY MAZE
The design and size of Priory Maze is based on the ruins of the adjacent Beeston Priory. The Copper Beech copies the layout of the existing ruins and the Green Hornbeam merely "fills in" to produce a Maze. The pink flowered Escallonia is within the tranquil Cloister Area and a Honeysuckle covered seating awaits the weary. Statues of Monks and other items are positioned to intrigue and amuse. There is no hidden meaning to this maze, merely a series of paths to create exploration and enjoyment.PERGOLA
Walk along the path beneath the wooden pergola planted with Rose and Honeysuckle and enjoy the perfume given off by the flowers. Be fascinated by the trompe-l'oeil.LAWN WALK
A wide grass lawn bordered on one side by a wide shrub bed planted with mainly edge of woodland native shrubs with a few garden ornamentals. The other side is planted with herbaceous garden plants in large demonstration beds that show the effectiveness of minimal maintenance ground cover. A leisurely stroll through this area could give you ideas for your own garden!WILDFLOWER MEADOW
The 2.5 acre wildflower meadow is now several years old and was sown in 1986 with a perennial seed mix which flowers best between June and September. The meadow is grazed by sheep as a method of management with occasional mowing. Paths between the meadows are regularly cut for you to use in comfort and pleasure.GRASS BEDS
Two grass beds to display the beauty and versatility of grass planting to show the range, colour and size of garden worthy grasses. There are 1000's of grass varieties throughout the world and we will endeavour to expand our planting varieties each year.PONDS AND STREAM
With the introduction of the stream we created two new ponds that have a mixture of nature on one side and domestic garden on the other to demonstrate alternative planting.OSIERS (WILLOWS)
Osier beds are traditionally planted in wetland areas of Britain and are grown for their annual crop of 10" long straight stems. They are cut in January each year to make willow hurdles and examples can be seen throughout the garden.DEMONSTRATION GARDENS
Several "gardens" with specific themes have been randomly located for you to find, examine and enjoy.IMPLEMENTS / PAVING
At various points in the garden we have displayed large garden implements of yesteryear on a variety of paving treatments to demonstrate hard landscaping you can use in your garden.WILDLIFE
A diverse wildlife habitat that has been created has encouraged a wider variety of animals, birds and insects to visit and feed rather than the previous mono culture. Foxes are regular visitors as are numerous local cats that find a plentiful food source. Birds from the size of Wren to Swan have been seen with woodland birds like Pheasant and Partridge, water birds like Moorhen, Mallard, Snipe, Geese and the occasional Kingfisher. The wildflower meadow attracts numerous varieties of small birds, butterflies and insects. We do nothing to discourage any natural visitor (except rabbit & mole) and we have benefited from a balanced environment.
