PRIVACY POLICY

When you visit or contact a website there can sometimes be the concerns or questions of how much information is actually gathered about you and what happens to my email address if I want to write to the site. These are valid concerns and below I will set out exactly what happens when you visit www.sheringhamtown.co.uk.

First and foremost we will always respect your privacy

EMAIL CONTACT

There are only 2 occasions when we can become aware of your email address, this is when you email directly from a program such as Outlook Express or if you use our contact form. Other than these methods we have no method of recording your email details and nor would we wish to.
When we receive a message from you, either by email or our contact form then we only use your email address to reply to you - once a reply has been sent we delete your original email and we do not keep a record of your email address.
We DO NOT sell or pass on your details when you contact us via email or contact form - the only time we display an email address on the website is when it is in relation to facilitate contact between a business and a user and even then this is only with permission or where the email address is in the public domain anyway.

GUESTBOOK & MESSAGEBOARD

Please be advised that if you fill in the email field on the messageboard or within the guestbook that your address will be usable by others - however this field is not mandatory and can be left blank if you so wish, the decision is yours to make.
In the messageboard a graphic of an envelope links to your email address and on the message board your email address will be shown.
As it is your decision to fill in the email field, we cannot and will not accept any responsibility for any abuse of your details.

Visits to www.sheringhamtown.co.uk
many web sites have the ability to collect the data below - we at least advise you of what data is collected and how we use it

On the main pages of the site you will see a counter / tracker - when you visit a page for the first time counter increments by one, when this occurs our counter records your IP (internet protocol) address. This an address which all computers on the Internet use to communicate with each other. Your IP address is assigned to you by your ISP and changes every time you log on to the Internet. All that we can tell from your IP address is what server or ISP you have used to reach us.
Our counter also takes (like the majority of servers) details of what operating system you have, what resolution your screen is set at and what browser you use .OK so we have this information what do we do with it?

From the information that is collected we can find out what site set up suits the majority of visitors to the site, for example
Statistic Most Popular Hits
Per Hour of Day 08:00 PM
Hits Per Weekday Tuesdays
Screen Resolution 1024x768
Browser Ratios Explorer
The first stat is not of much use to us - it just tells us when the most popular time of day for visiting the site is.
Again the second stat is not much use - just tells us what the most popular day for visiting the site is.

The screen resolution is of use to us - your screen can be set to different sizes - if you have a 15" monitor your screen resolution would probably be 800x600. This resolution size determines how much of a web page you can view at anyone time. For example if you are using 800x600 mode then you can probably see scroll bars on the left hand side of the site, whereas a person viewing the site with a resolution would not see these scroll bars.
The statistics collated have shown that most of the visitors to the site use either a monitor of 17" or above OR they use a screen resolution of 1024x768 and we have therefore designed the layout of the site to match the viewing capability of the majority of visitors. The Browser ratio tells us the most popular browser used when using the site and again whilst we keep the site compatible for all browsers we have tailored it to Internet Explorer, as it is the most popular with 49.30% of surfers using it (between May 2001 & November 2002)
