As I have said there is no charge for you to have pages within this website.
When I was walking around the town handing out info leaflets, traders were disbelieving that something was for free....well I can assure you the basic pages as laid out in this site are FREE
I am funding the site 99.9% myself! The hosting package is already paid for. Why? simply because I think the town is stunning, well worth promoting. I sincerely hope you think the same to, and forward your details to us.
We are constantly ranking within the Top 10 of many search engines and on 25/11/02 we came back #1 on Alta Vista for a lot of category's. So not only is appearing on our site free but we are also able to promote the town and your business effectively.
In the long run, it is hoped everyone would benefit from this site - if a visitor surfs to my site and sees a business detail then when they are in Sheringham they might visit the business and spend some money - how does that benefit everyone? Well if enough visitors do this then the shop might be able to take on or retain more staff - this in turn leads to more spend in the town via wages etc.
So why pay to go on any other site - when we can do it for free?
To be on this site you must have a business or interest or club or activity within the town (or close by in the case of campsites), or you must provide a visitor attraction.
E.g. Budgens could have an entry...Safeway could not.
E.g. VideoScene could have an entry Blockbuster could not
Basically the site is about providing information for visitors and people in the town about business's, trades, attractions and interest in the immediate area, therefore it stands to reason that it must be those that contribute in one way or another to the local economy and way of life that should appear.
WHAT DO YOU GET?
To start with you get 1 page with whatever you want to put on it. If I feel that it takes to long to scroll down the page then I'll suggest you use a 2nd page and so on.
You may put graphics or pictures on your site, but these must be in either gif or jpeg formats. Please bear in mind that the larger the graphic the longer it takes to load (and the more webspace it uses) therefore I would ask you keep the graphic files as small as possible. I'll soon let you know if I think their too big:-)
I have kept the colours fairly standard throughout, and would prefer to use these for your pages. However it is appreciated that not every one is going to think the colour scheme suits their business etc. If this is the case then please discuss you're requirements with us.
You may supply your own web page if required for display within our frameset's, but the page must be stored on our server and we must be able to add (or wording similar to):
A page from the Sheringham Town website © Marc Ollosson
If you need any further information regarding this site please email usThis so that if someone finds your page via a search engine that they are made aware, at the bottom of your page, of the existence of the site a whole.
To get this you need to supply us with, either via email or Royal Mail, as much detail as possible...this includes the postcode.
Fonts, i.e. the style of letters, are limited to an extent as they have to be kept to a basic few to ensure all users of allcomputer systems can see the letters, However this does not mean you are stuck with the standard ones for, say, your business name....we can create a small graphic file of the style you want.
E.g. the letters that make up the words SHERINGHAM TOWN are in a font that would not normally be found on every computer, so we created a picture file which because of it's format (gif) all computers can see.
Talk to us about what you want and we'll see if we can do it or something similar.
HIT COUNTER - If you want to track how many visitors you have had to your pages then we can set up a counter for you.
LINKING
We will gladly provide a text / graphical link to your own website but there is a proviso to this:
You must still provide us with a description type detail of your interest / business so that we make this site as comprehensive as we can. I.e.. a surfer must see a full page about you on our site before being whisked off to your site.
This site is not just about providing a collection of links, I want it to be of use to the community and visitors.
The only exception to this is the national concerns - the reason for this is basically everyone already knows what Natwest does or what the Co-op sells.
Until more information is received from attractions I will also link out direct to them, but this won't go on for ever.
This is not meant to take visitors away from your site, as it will be linked to, but more to ensure maximum use and benefit of this site.
Banner / graphical / textual adverts - please note this does not apply to your free pages only if you decide to advertise elsewhere on the site
PAGE ADVERTS
If you want to place a banner advert on a page (other than your own free pages) then this will be charged at :
Independent or national trader within the town - £10pa per page the banner / button / graphic advert appears on
National Trader outside the town - £50pa per page the banner / button / graphic advert appears on
70% of revenue off the adverts will be given to the RNLI
SEARCH BAR AREA ADVERTS - our search bars currently reside in this area
The search bar area can be "rented" for 1 year at a time at the following costs:
Independent or national traders within the town - £50pa
National trader outside the town - £150pa
Again 70% of revenue will be given to the RNLIThe search bar advert area an offer available to 1 advertiser only as this advert will appear on ALL pages of the site which open in our frameset. That is to say if someone comes to www.sheringhamtown.co.uk and uses our navbar every page they load from our site will carry the adbar at the bottom.
Is advertising on the site worth it?
There have been over 10,000 hits, in a 12 month period, to our main index page alone!!! That is in excess of 10,000 views of any advert!
There are counters on each of the mainpages - the figures show how many people would have seen your advert if it had been on our pages.
So yes I do believe advertising on www.sheringhamtown.co.uk is worth it - we get the traffic and our rates are very good. Don't forget we will give 70% of any advertising revenue to the RNLI.
There is nothing worse than visiting a website and finding it so cluttered and full of adverts that you can't get to the information you want, therefore I want to keep such adverts down to a minimum.
That said I must pay for the cost of running this site, hence the Amazon and 101cd & CDwow graphical links and my reserving the right to place avderts on the pages through out the site. However, having been in business myself, I sincerely appreciate how we are all proud of our names / business and what we want associated with them, therefore please discuss this with us and we will watch what banner adverts are on your pages, but the main advert area is an area we reserve the right to fill with an advert which will help maintain site costs.
This charge is for displaying the graphic & not designing it...we can design basic banners but would prefer you supply your own.
It is upto you to ensure you own the copyright in any artwork you authorise us to use.
The banner advert can be placed in the current advert area, or anywhere on the page except for under the words "Sheringham town" and most importantly only one advert (in addition to the advert area) can be placed on a page.
I was hoping to avoid advertisements on the church pages, but due to the way Netscape Navigator cannot handle layering then I have had to revert to basic frames and this makes setting up individual advert bars on each page more difficult and sadly therefore the adbar area will appear on the church section.
UPDATES
We aim to update the site at least once a month, therefore if you have any advert requirements or changes to your site please let us know by the 28th of each month. This will enable us to update the site on the 1st of every month,
It is your responsibility to ensure any offers you have running are current and valid and to inform us when they change.
Email links can either be direct to you, or we can forward emails to your private email address if required. In this instance your email address would take the form yourname@sheringhamtown.co.uk.
If there is enough interest in having email with the above address format then I can add more POP3 boxes to the hosting package I have, this would allow you to collect your mail direct rather than having it forwarded. This would incur additional costs to myself though and there would have to be a small charge for this of £3.00 per 2yrs.
But we will happily forward email to your main email account - contact us with your requirements.
At this moment I cannot see a free method allowing me to distribute emails to anyone who does not have net access and am therefore open to suggestions.
THE LAST WORD
I reserve the right to refuse to carry any business's details and or / graphics if:
it appears the details are misleading the public.
It is or appears to be offensive
the details contain anything that might be considered slanderous or libellous.
Otherwise we'll discuss the issue with you.
The right to immediately withdraw all or part of a page is reserved by us, typically this would be used if we were made aware of copyright breach's or if any of your details are proved to be inaccurate or false.
In anycase we would contact you to inform you.
I think & hope that covers everything, I have tried to be as fair as I can and to keep things as simple as I can, if you feel I have not, or indeed if you have any queries then please feel free to email me webmaster@sheringhamtown.co.uk I'll be glad to hear your comments / views and more than grateful to receive your details.
I hope you will support this site, and in turn lend more support to promoting the town on the Internet and as it is free what have you got to lose?
Thanks to Andy and Co. at Smugglers Cave for being the first to trust the site, swiftly followed by Norwich & Peterborough & Budgens and now quite a few others....thankyou to you all.
With best wishes & kind regards
Marc Ollosson
